I have been involved with the Fort Collins International Center (FCIC) at Colorado State University since 2006 which is a non-profit organization that builds relationships between the international students and scholars with the American students and community members. I myself am from the United Kingdom and was welcomed with open arms at the FCIC in 2004 and have built friendships with people from all around the world.

Volunteer experience that you feel relates to this position:

I have served on the AGU annual meeting scientific program committee representing Nonlinear Geophysics (NG) for 13 years, this year being my 14th. Full editor at the Earth and Space Science journal since 2023. Treasurer of the Fort Collins International Center.

Section presidents and presidents-elect serve as members of the AGU Council and lead their sections. The AGU Council is a diverse forum of perspectives that meets throughout the year to provide input to the AGU Board, staff, and other parts of the organization. Three communities within the Council - committee chairs, section leaders, and students and early career scientists - serve different roles in AGU and bring unique viewpoints to ongoing discussions.

This role aims to catalyze community and build AGU as envisioned by the strategic plan. This leadership position is a dual role: helping to advance AGU’s strategic plan as a member of Council; and leading your section. How would you support the Board, staff and other sections to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals? How will you engage with members of your section to execute AGU’s strategic plan?

I have been helping to organize the AGU annual meeting since 2013, having served on many of the smaller working groups of the planning committee to help organize different parts of the conference away from the scientific program. During that time I have built relationships with people from the other sections who now are on the council or will be soon and can work with them to advance AGU's vision and strategic plane.

However, if elected I would happily continue in both the scientific program and the president-elect positions, to then use both positions to liaise with different parts of the NG membership to communicate and to listen and communicate back comments on the strategic plan. I would hold office hours at the annual meeting to engage with the membership, as well working with the secretary to ensure a regular newsletter is sent to the membership keeping them on top of developments at the AGU.
