My perspective is rooted in a deep commitment to scientific excellence and the open sharing of knowledge and tools. Having worked on a variety of research topics, developed both hardware and software, and closely collaborated with many individuals in Atmospheric and Space Electricity (ASE), I recognize that addressing increasingly complex scientific problems requires not just diverse instruments, but a unified community that readily shares its resources and insights.

Furthermore, I bring a voice dedicated to mentorship and community building. I firmly believe that supporting the growth of students and early career investigators is critical to the future of our science. My ongoing service—whether handling manuscripts as a Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres Associate Editor, chairing the AGU ASE Early Career Award committee, or organizing collaborative workshops—centers on cultivating this next generation. I also prioritize translating our field's work to the public through active media outreach.

I embrace AGU’s inclusive mission. I aim to use my collaborative perspective to foster a welcoming environment that values rigorous research, prioritizes early-career support, and champions the open exchange of ideas.

Volunteer experience that you feel relates to this position:

Serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, handling manuscripts in the Atmospheric and Space Electricity (ASE) field. Served on the AGU ASE Early Career Award Selection Committee in 2018, 2020 (as a chair) and 2022. Chaired the AGU ASE Benjamin Franklin Lecture Committee in 2025. Organize sessions and workshops focused on lightning physics and effects at major scientific conferences. Review manuscripts and grant proposals regularly for a variety of high-impact journals and funding agencies

Q&A

Section presidents and presidents-elect serve as members of the AGU Council and lead their sections. The AGU Council is a diverse forum of perspectives that meets throughout the year to provide input to the AGU Board, staff, and other parts of the organization. Three communities within the Council - committee chairs, section leaders, and students and early career scientists - serve different roles in AGU and bring unique viewpoints to ongoing discussions.

This role aims to catalyze community and build AGU as envisioned by the strategic plan. This leadership position is a dual role: helping to advance AGU’s strategic plan as a member of Council; and leading your section. How would you support the Board, staff and other sections to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals? How will you engage with members of your section to execute AGU’s strategic plan?

As a member of the Council, I will support the Board, staff, and other sections by championing cross-disciplinary partnerships that move Earth and space sciences from "usable" to "used." Achieving AGU’s vision of a thriving, sustainable future requires breaking down disciplinary boundaries to co-create solutions for complex societal challenges. I will actively collaborate with other section leaders to build these broad networks while advocating to embed diversity, equity, and ethical conduct into all governance and operations, helping to exemplify an inclusive scientific culture.

Within the Atmospheric and Space Electricity (ASE) section, I will engage our members to execute the strategic plan by fostering a culture that rewards both fundamental discovery and solution-based science. Drawing on my experience organizing collaborative workshops and chairing early career award committees, I will prioritize inspiring and empowering the next generation of ASE scientists. I will encourage our section to lead in open science and integrate emerging technologies into our research. Furthermore, I will strongly support ASE members in science communication and public outreach efforts. By investing in engagement and democratizing our science through co-creation, we can ensure our discoveries actively benefit humanity and the environment.
