Volunteer experience that you feel relates to this position:

I've had the pleasure of serving in several volunteer roles for AGU and other organizations. For AGU I've served on the Fellows Committee for Mineral and Rock Physics, as the Chair of Mineral and Rock Physics (MRP) first as a focus group and then as a section, and I've served on the AGU Council. I've organized many AGU conferences and special session. Most recently I've organized a weekly online seminar that ran for 5+ years.

Section presidents and presidents-elect serve as members of the AGU Council and lead their sections. The AGU Council is a diverse forum of perspectives that meets throughout the year to provide input to the AGU Board, staff, and other parts of the organization. Three communities within the Council - committee chairs, section leaders, and students and early career scientists - serve different roles in AGU and bring unique viewpoints to ongoing discussions.

This role aims to catalyze community and build AGU as envisioned by the strategic plan. This leadership position is a dual role: helping to advance AGU’s strategic plan as a member of Council; and leading your section. How would you support the Board, staff and other sections to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals? How will you engage with members of your section to execute AGU’s strategic plan?

I would support the board, staff and other sections to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals by following a simple rule. Treat people the way I would like to be treated. AGU's goals should be to promote our science broadly and without bias. I am very comfortable with this direction.

As for engaging members I think it's a matter of helping them understand the importance of promoting our science and the value of promoting people, members, as part of that process.
