As a candidate for AGU Global Environmental Change (GEC) section Secretary, I would bring the perspective of a scientist deeply committed to advancing global environmental change research through inclusive, transparent, and service-oriented leadership. My professional identity is shaped by interdisciplinary work across Earth system science, climate, atmospheric processes, environmental change, and solution-focused research.

I strongly value the voices of students, early career scientists, international members, scientists from underrepresented institutions, and colleagues working at the intersections of science, policy, education, and society. The GEC section is a broad and global community, and its strength lies in bringing together diverse scientific perspectives across disciplines, regions, cultures, and career stages.

If elected, I would work to ensure that GEC communications, meetings, awards, and volunteer opportunities are clear, welcoming, accessible, and inclusive. I would especially support stronger engagement with early career members and international scientists, helping them see GEC not only as a scientific home, but also as a community where they can build leadership, collaboration, mentorship, and long-term professional connection.

Through this service, I would strive to uphold AGU's values of excellence, integrity, respect, diversity, collaboration, and science education and outreach, while contributing to AGU’s broader vision of a thriving, sustainable, and equitable future.

The section secretary role is determined by individual sections. If needed, the secretary might be asked to serve as an alternate to the president or president-elect at a Council meeting.

As part of the section leadership team, how will you work in partnership with your president, president-elect, other leaders, and staff to communicate with and engage your members to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals?

As part of the GEC leadership team, I would work closely and respectfully with the President, President-Elect, other section leaders, committee chairs, early career representatives, and AGU staff to strengthen communication, coordination, and member engagement. I see the Secretary role as both organizational and community-building: maintaining accurate records, supporting timely communication, coordinating meetings, and helping ensure that section activities are transparent, inclusive, and well connected.

I would help communicate GEC priorities through newsletters, AGU Connect, meeting announcements, volunteer calls, award updates, and other member-facing channels. I would also support the leadership team in identifying emerging scientific themes, encouraging strong session proposals, promoting student and early career participation, and connecting members with meaningful opportunities to serve.

In partnership with AGU staff, I would aim to make GEC communications clear, respectful, inclusive, and action-oriented, so members understand how to participate and how their voices can contribute to the section’s mission. By supporting strong coordination among leaders and open communication with members, I would help GEC advance AGU’s mission to support discovery and solution-oriented Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity and the environment.
