Recognizing Efforts to Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Earth and Space Sciences

The Award for Advancing Inclusive Excellence in STEM recognizes exemplary efforts made by an individual or team for developing program/s, systems, or networks that have led to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Earth and space sciences community.

The nominees for this distinguished award are individuals or teams from all career levels that have proven success in creating and sustaining measurable change within the Earth and space science community.

Honor Benefits
Recipients receive the following:

  • A $10,000 prize intended to further the honoree(s) work (teams are entrusted to distribute the awards equitably)
  • An engraved award
  • Recognition at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded
  • Registration to AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded for a single winner or up to two team members
  • Two hotel nights and tickets to the Honors Banquet at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded for a single winner or up to two team members

Criteria for a Successful Nomination

The individual nominee or team must be a change agent for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the Earth and space science community as demonstrated by mentoring, advocacy, and/or the development of programs, systems, or networks with measurable evidence of sustained success.


ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEAMS

Each nominated team member should have contributed to the implementation or success of the practices, programs, or initiatives that led to the advancement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the Earth and space science community.

A team can be comprised of:

  • partners in DEI advocacy at their institution(s) or communities;
  • collaborators in creating or implementing inclusive policies, practices, or programs;
  • co-developers of approaches that foster a more equitable Earth and space science community;
  • co-contributors to developing a more diverse and inclusive workforce;
  • co-authors on articles or manuscripts;
  • or co-creators of pedagogical tools or programs.

Eligibility

Nominee
The nominee must be an individual or team.

Team membership is not limited to AGU members or professional scientists.
Nominators
Nominators/co-nominators must be active AGU members.
All Parties
Must be in compliance with AGU's conflict of interest and professional conduct policies.
