A complete nomination package consists of the following:
A nomination letter that states how the nominee meets the selection criteria regarding their exemplary manuscript. It should include details about the potential for future contributions, which will be assessed through key note presentations, additional publications, and proven leadership by the Ph.D. candidate during their time of study. Nominator’s signature, name, title, institution, and contact information are required. Letterhead is preferred.
The nominee’s curriculum vitae, that includes the candidate’s name, address, email, history of employment, degrees, research experience, honors, memberships and service to the community (committee work, advisory boards, etc.).
A copy of the manuscript either published or in press in a peer-reviewed journal. The nominee must be the first author and a one-page explanation for each co-author’s contribution is required.
Paper must have been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal while enrolled in a MS or PhD program or within one year of receiving their MS or PhD.
A letter of support from the nominee’s faculty advisor highlighting the manuscript’s importance and implications, as well as the nominee’s potential for continued contributions to the fields of paleoceanography and paleoclimatology. Supporter’s signature, name, title, institution, and contact information are required. Letterhead is preferred.
2026 Review Timeline
- 5 January: Submission period opens
- 13 March: Submission period closes
- 1 April -13 May: Selection committees review nomination packages
- 18 May: Recommendation reports due to staff
- 12 June: Section President Approval of Recommendation Reports Due
- TBD September: 2026 Section award and lecture recipients announced
