Who Can Submit an Abstract? First Author Policies and Responsibilities
AGU25 welcomes abstract submissions from a wide range of contributors, but there are specific guidelines and responsibilities for first authors. Whether you're submitting a contributed or invited abstract, here’s what you need to know.
Membership Requirements
To submit an abstract to AGU25:
- You must be a current AGU member or a member of an affiliated society or organization.
- Invited authors and non-geoscientists may request a membership waiver by 16 July 2025. This waiver does not grant AGU member benefits or waive the abstract submission fee.
First Author Submission Limits
First authors can submit:
- Two abstracts (not invited) as long as they are submitted to different sections.
- Students and early-career scientists may submit two abstracts as first authors to the same section if it is co-organized with another.
- Two abstracts, where one or both are invited. They may be submitted to any section, including the same one.
- Three abstracts, where one or two are invited.
Note: You can find the full author policy here.
Invited Author Requirements
- Must use the invitation link sent via email to submit.
- Abstracts submitted outside this process won’t be marked as invited. Invited authors must pay all fees, including membership, abstract submission and registration.
Convener Limitations
- Conveners cannot be first or presenting authors on invited submissions to their own sessions.
- Conveners may submit abstracts to their own sessions, but they must be scheduled as poster presentations.
- Conveners who are students or early-career researchers may schedule themselves for oral presentations in their own sessions.
Deadline to submit abstracts: 30 July 2025 at 23:59 EDT / 03:59 UTC
Submitting to AGU25 is a great opportunity to share your science with a global community. By understanding the first author responsibilities and limits, you'll be well-prepared to make the most of the submission process.
