Geophysical Union (AGU) and the American Geosciences Institute
(AGI). The 2026 workshop is facilitated by the National Association
of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT).
About the Workshop
The AGU | AGI Heads & Chairs Workshop brings together leaders of geoscience departments and programs to strengthen their leadership capacity, exchange effective practices, and address the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of geoscience education and the workforce.
A one-day, highly interactive experience
As part of the broader AGU | AGI Heads & Chairs Program, this one-day workshop connects department leaders with research, practical tools, resources, and a community of peers committed to building strong and resilient geoscience programs.
Participants will explore evidence-based approaches that can be adapted and implemented within their own departments and institutions, while building connections with colleagues leading programs across a range of institutional settings.
Workshop Goals
Participants leave with strategies, resources and peer connections they can put to work in their own departments.
There is no cost to participate in the AGU | AGI Heads & Chairs Workshop. Advance registration is required to support workshop planning, participation, and program evaluation.
The workshop will be held on December 6, 2026, immediately prior to AGU26 in San Francisco. Registration for the Heads & Chairs Workshop is separate from AGU26 registration, and participation in AGU26 is not required to attend the workshop.
