Data and Publishing Ethics
AGU promotes the highest standards of scientific integrity, professional ethics, and open data access across the Earth and space sciences.

About Data and Publishing Ethics

As a leading scientific publisher, AGU believes that rigorous ethical standards and accessible data are fundamental to the integrity and impact of Earth and space science. When data is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR), it accelerates discovery, supports better decision-making, and strengthens public trust in science.

Scientific misconduct, whether in research design, data handling, or publishing, undermines the entire enterprise. At the same time, questions of data sovereignty and equitable access are increasingly important considerations for a global scientific community working across diverse communities and contexts.

The AGU Ethics and Equity Center provides policies, reports, tools, and educational resources to help researchers, authors, reviewers, and institutions uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity and ensure that data is responsibly preserved and shared for the benefit of all.
