Diversity in Science Initiative
AGU leads efforts to foster more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments across the Earth and space sciences.

About AGU’s Diversity in Science Initiative

Diversity makes fundamentally important contributions to scientific and organizational excellence. Engagement of diverse perspectives invigorates problem-solving, balances biases, and facilitates specialization, strengthening the quality and societal impact of Earth and space science for everyone.

Yet some communities, including historically underrepresented ethnic and cultural minorities, people from developing countries, persons with disabilities, and others, continue to face systemic barriers to full participation in the sciences. Addressing those barriers requires resources, accountability, and sustained commitment at every level, from individual researchers and students to academic departments, scientific societies, and institutions.

The AGU Ethics and Equity Center provides policies, reports, tools, surveys, and learning resources to help foster more inclusive research and work environments. The materials here offer leading practices for increasing diversity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging across the Earth and space science community.
