About AGU’s Ethics in Science Initiative
Meaningful culture change in science requires more than individual commitment, it demands coordinated action across institutions, societies, and disciplines. AGU embraces its role as a leader and advocate for ethics, diversity, and inclusion in the Earth and space sciences, working alongside partners to establish the standards, programs, and accountability structures that make inclusive science possible.
Among these efforts, AGU partnered with the Earth Science Women's Network and the Association for Women Geoscientists on ADVANCEGeo, a project that develops bystander intervention workshops for faculty, academic leaders, and graduate students to prevent sexual harassment on campus and in the field. AGU also co-led the establishment of SEA Change (STEMM Equity Achievement) Institutional and Departmental Awards, which recognize the policies, practices, and environments that support equity and inclusion across scientific disciplines.
The AGU Ethics and Equity Center provides policies, reports, tools, and educational resources to help researchers, students, departments, and institutions uphold ethical standards and build cultures of respect and inclusion in their own communities.
