Expanding the Networks of Early Career Scientists and PhD Graduates

The Basu Innovation Scholar Grant, provided through the generosity of Sunanda Basu, provides travel support to an an early-career scientist/recent Ph.D. graduate to attend AGU's annual meeting. Candidates must be making an impact in the area of space physics and aeronomy through innovative approaches to observation and interpretation.

This grant is awarded as part of AGU's Annual Meeting and complements the William B. Hanson Lecture. By participating in the Annual Meeting, the Hanson Lecture presentation, and the SPA reception, recipients get the opportunity to network with the Hanson Lecturer and other established scientists in the AGU Community outside of their existing network.

The Basu Grant will be open for applications 10 July - 12 August 2024. 

Honor Benefits
Recipients receive the following:

Up to $2,000 in financial support to participate in AGU's annual meeting, either in-person or virtually. Reimbursable expenses for virtual participation include purchasing or renting technology, transportation or housing needed to access technology, dependent care costs, unpaid leave/lost wages, meeting registration, etc.

Eligibility

Applicant
The applicant must:
  • support work producing innovation in space science measurements and interpretation
  • not already have access to an expansive network of colleagues in their field
  • be an early career scientist/recent PhD graduate
