A complete nomination package consists of the following:

Nomination Letter

A nomination letter containing the nominator’s name, title, institution and contact information and a one-sentence citation at the beginning of the letter. The letter should detail outstanding contributions to the field of mineral and rock physics achieved during the nominee's Ph.D. research. Letterhead is preferred.

CV

The nominee’s curriculum vitae, that includes the candidate’s name, address, email, history of employment, degrees, research experience, honors, memberships and service to the community (committee work, advisory boards, etc.).

Letters of Support

Two to three letters of support (separate from the nomination letter) with the supporter’s name, title, institution and contact information. Letters from individuals not currently or recently associated with the candidate’s institution of graduate education or employment are encouraged. Letterhead is preferred.

Manuscripts

Up to three copies of the nominee's published or preprint manuscripts, which illustrate the nominee’s quality of work.

Bibliography (Optional)

A selected bibliography stating the total number and types of publications and the number published by AGU.

2024 Review Timeline

  • 17 January: Nomination period Opens
  • 27 March: Nomination period Closes
  • 22 April - 3 June: Selection committees review nominations
  • 10 June: Section Award selection committees' recommendation reports are due
  • 10 - 17 June: Section Presidents reviewing Section Award Committee recommendation reports
  • 21 June: Deadline for Section Presidents to approve recommendations for the 2024 Section Award recipients
  • TBD September: 2024 Section Awards recipients announced

AGU reserves the right to reject, without review, nominations that do not follow all eligibility requirements. These include:
Conflict of Interest
Nominators must follow AGU's conflict of interest policy to avoid the appearance of bias.
Read Policy
Two-Page Limit
Unless otherwise noted, no one component of the nomination package may exceed two pages. AGU will remove any additional pages before sharing with the review committee.
Posthumous Nominations
AGU does not accept nominations for candidates posthumously.
Duplicate Nominations
If duplicate nominations for the same candidate are submitted, AGU will only review the first submitted.
Co-Nominations
A maximum of two nominators may submit a nomination together.
