AGU Elections
Board of Directors Candidates
Board candidates will compete for five open positions on the Board in this year’s election: president-elect, general secretary, and three directors. AGU’s rotation strategy is designed to retain about 50% of elected members each term to ensure leadership continuity. Continuing members for the 2023–2024 term include the current AGU president and the president-elect in their new positions, the international secretary, two directors, one at-large director, and the executive director/CEO (nonvoting).
David Shaw is running unopposed for the office of General Secretary, which is the Treasurer position at AGU. In 2021, David was appointed as General Secretary position to fill a vacancy. The Leadership Development / Governance Committee, in consultation with incoming AGU President Lisa Graumlich, recommended carrying David over for another term to ensure continuity in this position as AGU navigates various ongoing financial discussions. As General Secretary, David chairs two committees: Audit and Finance & Investment. David also brings a strong solution science perspective to the Board.
