AGU Michael H. Freilich Student Visualization Competition

Application Requirements

A complete application package consists of the following:
  • A statement of purpose no longer than two paragraphs describing data used. This should include source and authorized use for each set of data and what the scientific potential is
  • Proposed story and visualization for a presentation no longer than 10 minutes in a storyboard format including:
    • examples of static images
    • planned visualizations and description of how the visualization will work supporting narrative text
    • Optional: Up to three MP4 files of a one- to three-minute building block/sample of visualization
Additional Team Submission Requirements
  • Team should be comprised of at least two and no more than five contributors
  • Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged
  • All team members must be students and at least one member should be formally enrolled in a degree program in one of the following fields: Social, Behavioral, or Economic Sciences, Education, Human Resources
  • Teams must identify a project lead who will be responsible for submitting the proposal and identifying how award funds will be distributed among team members; Co-authors can be recognized in both individual and team submissions

Heads Up!

  • AGU reserves the right to reject, without review, applications that do not meet all requirements for this opportunity.

  • Applicants are limited to one proposal per year but may resubmit in a future year. Previous grand prize winners of the Freilich Competition are not eligible to reapply.
Conflict of Interest
  • Direct family members (children, sibling, or spouse) of AGU staff are not eligible to participate.

  • Current and past NASA personnel and direct family members of NASA personnel may apply, but must note this on their application.
  • Applicants must abide by AGU's conflict of interest policy.
