Application Requirements

A complete application consists of the following:
Letter of Intent

There are no requirements for format or length, but most letters are approximately two pages. The letter should address:

  • Why you would like to be a Congressional Science Fellow
  • How it will advance your career goals
  • How you are qualified
  • What policy issues are of interest to you
  • If you have previously held a one-year policy fellowship at the federal or state level, please also explain how this additional experience would benefit your career development and the broader scientific community.

CV

The applicant’s curriculum vitae that includes personal and professional experience and a publications appendix. There are no requirements for format or length.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation from individuals able to discuss the applicant's competence and other aspects of their background that make them qualified to serve as a Congressional Science Fellow. Degree candidates should also include a letter from their adviser stating the status of their thesis, and their anticipated date of completion. Applicants are responsible for ensuring letters are submitted before the deadline.

FORMAT

Acceptable file formats for online submission are limited to the following: ASCII text with file extension .txt; MS Word documents with file extension .doc; or Adobe PDF.

Application Process

The application process is comprised of two stages:
1. Submit Application
Complete the secure online application form, verify your information, and upload your C.V. and Letter of Intent.

2. Request Letters of Recommendation
Upon completion of the application form, you will receive a personal URL. Provide this URL to your references, who should each upload a letter of recommendation. All letters must be received before the application deadline.
