Nomination Package Requirements

A complete nomination package consists of the following:

A nomination letter containing the nominator’s name, title, institution and contact information and details about the nominee's record of producing cutting-edge science relevant to global environmental change and how their personal history complements that of Stephen Schneider. The letter should also discuss the nominee’s record as an engaging and effective speaker to a non-specialist audience. The letter should not exceed three pages. Letterhead is preferred.

2026 Review Timeline

  • 5 January: Submission period opens
  • 13 March: Submission period closes
  • 1 April -13 May: Selection committees review nomination packages
  • 18 May: Recommendation reports due to staff
  • 12 June: Section President Approval of Recommendation Reports Due
  • TBD September: 2026 Section award and lecture recipients announced

AGU reserves the right to reject, without review, nominations that do not follow all eligibility requirements. These include:
Conflict of Interest
Nominators must follow AGU's conflict of interest policy to avoid the appearance of bias.

Posthumous Nominations
AGU does not accept nominations for candidates posthumously.
Duplicate Nominations
If duplicate nominations for the same candidate are submitted, AGU will only review the first submitted.
Co-Nominations
A maximum of two nominators may submit a nomination together.
Page Limit
No one item in a nomination package should exceed two pages, aside from the nomination letter. AGU will remove any additional pages before sharing with the review committee.
